I’ve find myself surrounded by family and friends who struggle with mental illness, and I have done so since I was a child.
My mother, brother, a son, a grandson, a granddaughter and two daughters-in-law have all struggled with varying types of mental illness or disorder. As I have been in close relationship with these family members, I have discovered there is no explanation for the fact that I have both close friends and relatives who find themselves dealing with similar issues.
While I can understand there is a genetic component related to mental illness, it’s almost as if there is an epidemic going on!
All of this is contributes to the reason I decided to put together a panel of experts who can help those of us dealing with the uncertainty, unpredictability and stress that comes with the role of caregiver. We CAN come through it, but we need support and guidance. We especially need to learn more about self-care. That’s what this newsletter is all about.
